How does surplus management work?

In the event that the immediate production of a photovoltaic system exceeds the current consumption, there are several options for configuring the system for this condition :

1. Limit production - electricity will not be produced, the panels will remain unused.

2. Redirect production to the grid - electricity will be delivered to the distribution grid free of charge or after agreement with a buyer for a fee (virtual battery).

3. Turn on additional appliances that we want to power exclusively from the sun - the most optimal solution, since consumption takes place in your home at a given time and therefore you are not charged distribution fees as with a virtual battery.

Use 1: Domestic hot water heating

An electric boiler for heating hot water is best used as an additional appliance for excess energy.

How does it work?: In order to make the most optimal use of surpluses, it is necessary to control the instantaneous heating output according to the amount of the current surplus

Example: If the surplus value in a given second is 500W, the heating power is set to 500W even though the maximum boiler power is 2kW. This solution slightly increases the heating time, but 100% of the energy for heating comes from photovoltaics. Excess control is done dynamically with a response time of a few seconds.

Use 2: Charging electric vehicles

Another suitable appliance is an electric car charger.

Example: You have 10kWp of power on your roof, it's a sunny day, a washing machine and a dryer are running together with a power of 5kW, and an electric car charger is connected at the same time. The current surplus of 5kW is directed to your car via the Wallbox. As soon as the washing machine and dryer are finished, the entire available power of 10kW is redirected to the car. This control is done dynamically with a response time of several seconds.
